About Tall Ships Races

Tall Ships Races is first and foremost a regatta and an event that focuses on young people. Kristiansand will be the host port for the third time when the ships arrive in 2025. The city is the penultimate of five host ports on the route. The festival takes place from Wednesday, July 30 to Saturday, August 2.

The foundation behind the Tall Ships Races, Sail Training International, has a grand goal: To give young people experiences that will mark them for life. Here they can challenge themselves, forge international bonds and grow as individuals. Being a crew member on board the sailing ships is not just for experienced sailors. At least half of the crew on each sailing ship must be young people between the ages of 15 and 25. These young and perhaps inexperienced sailors, known as co-sailors or trainees, are the heart and soul of the Tall Ships Races.

For Kristiansand, with its long coastline and magnificent harbor in the middle of the city center, it is great to host this fantastic event. Shipping, sailing ships and the long maritime tradition are an important part of the city's history. The Tall Ships Races is a folk festival that fills the streets and quay areas with life. It will be possible to wander along the quay areas that are usually enclosed behind closed fences. We look forward to filling the city with diversity, cultural exchange and youthful enthusiasm. And, the timing is prefect - two years before our own Fullrigger Sørlandet celebrates its proud 100th anniversary!

The entire region is invited to participate, and we are working hard to involve as many people as possible. We want the whole of Agder to feel ownership of the event and to contribute, either by sending fellow sailors, filling the stages with entertainment, or being involved in some other way.

Come aboard with us in 2025, and together we will brush the dust off the sails and fill Kristiansand with new maritime dreams and youthful enthusiasm!
